PRENATAL/ PREGNANCY MASSAGE

60 min $146

At Upper West Side, we design our prenatal/ pregnancy massage with extra love and care for the mother-to-be. In anticipation of your child’s arrival, our therapists gently target soreness, loosen tight muscles, and relax your entire body.

Similar to our Swedish massage, the therapist uses long, sweeping strokes with light pressure to massage the soft tissue. This technique reduces the fluid build-up that commonly occurs during pregnancy, which can result in swollen joints, pain, and discomfort. To ensure optimal comfort and relaxation, we use patented system of pregnancy cushions that fully support the client’s body.

Frequently Asked Questions About Prenatal/ Pregnancy Massage:

1. What do they do in a prenatal massage?

A prenatal massage stimulates soft tissue and alleviates fluid build-up in swollen joints. For pregnant clients, this process reduces muscle stiffness, joint pain, and other forms of discomfort associated with pregnancy.

2. What week is best for a prenatal massage

Prenatal massages are generally considered safe after the first trimester, provided you get approval from your practitioner and are not a high-risk pregnancy patient

3. What areas should not be massaged during pregnancy?

Massage therapists will avoid pressure points associated with the pelvis, wrists, hands, and ankles. Also, due to the risk of blood clots during pregnancy, it is important to avoid deep tissue massage in the legs.

4. How often should you get a prenatal massage?

Prenatal massage can benefit you throughout your pregnancy. You should have monthly appointments until around 27 weeks, then twice-monthly appointments from 27-36 weeks, and weekly appointments from 36 weeks until you give birth if appropriate.
