Upper West Spa is a beautiful, full-service day and laser spa located in the Upper West Side of New York City. Founded in 2018 our spa quickly became the premiere Advanced Skin Clinic and SkinCeuticals Flagship Store as a recognition of our team’s professionalism and expertise.
The inspiration and our journey began with Joanna Kaminska, the founder of Upper West Spa. Joanna was originally trained in Poland, a country where skincare is considered a science and where medical professionals and aestheticians often work together. She has three decades worth of experience in the field of aesthetics and she worked on the Upper West Side since early 90s as a lead aesthetician and manager before launching her own UWS Spa. Joanna’s aim for her spa was to stay away from cookie-cutter treatments and to provide curated services that would enhance every client’s experience. Together with her amazing team of coworkers they pride themselves on offering matchless services and customized approach to each treatment.
Our commitment to providing exceptional skincare services has earned us a reputation throughout New York City. Many of our clients have been following our team since the early 1990s – they recommended (and continue to recommend) friends, family and colleagues. Our friendly staff offers a luxurious spa experience right in your local neighborhood. We strive to make every visit special and ensure you feel comfortable and at home while receiving the best service possible.
At Upper West Spa, we understand that everyone’s skin is unique and requires special attention. Therefore, we customize our treatments to suit the skin of each guest. Our tailored regimens are often layered with different technologies in order to achieve maximum and long-lasting effects. We are constantly learning and updating ourselves to provide our clients with cutting-edge and innovative skin-care treatments. Whether you come in for a facial, laser hair removal, massage, or microneedling, you’ll be sure to receive a personalized experience.
Our Spa is fast becoming known as an exfoliating authority in NYC due to our wide variety of exfoliating technologies. From the state-of-the-art Hydrafacial to JetPeel and microdermabrasion, to dermaplaning, ultrasound peel and myriad chemical peels, the Upper West Spa offers a solution for everyone. There is not one treatment to satisfy everyone’s skin needs; therefore, it is crucial to offer many options giving clients the best possible results. Thanks to our commitment to excellence and ability to choose the most optimal exfoliating technology, the Upper West scale Spa is quickly becoming a go-to destination for those seeking to renew and refresh their skin.
Joanna Kaminska is the driving force behind Upper West Spa. She worked on the Upper West Side as a lead aesthetician helping to manage other spas for over 30 years.
Joanna was originally trained in Poland, where she attended the Warsaw School of Aesthetics. In 1990 she graduated with high honors from their rigorous program, taught by doctors and cosmetic chemists. In 1996, she passed an international exam and obtained the Comite International d’Esthetique et de Cosmetologie (CIDESCO) Diploma: the most prestigious qualification in the aesthetics field.
A lifelong student, Joanna is constantly learning the latest research in the aesthetic industry. Over a decade ago she came across the research of Dr. Sheldon Pinnell, a renowned dermatologist at Duke University. Through his work, Dr. Pinnell documented the importance of topical Vitamin C for skin cancer prevention and general skincare: a discovery that led to the formulation of SkinCeuticals.
Joanna fell in love with this science-backed skincare line and introduced it to a few spas where she worked before. It was only natural that her Spa was asked to become an Advanced Skin Clinic soon after opening and in 2020 Upper West Spa was named Top Flagship for SkinCeuticals. In 2022 Joanna was admitted to the most advanced level of the SkinCeuticals Master Aesthetician program. Today, she is one of only a handful of SkinCeuticals Master Aestheticians, who are selected from hundreds of highly accomplished candidates throughout the U.S.
Joanna is driven by a deep love for skincare and enduring commitment to her clients and coworkers – and she’s also generous with her expertise. She regularly attends seminars and conferences on skincare technologies and passes her knowledge to her team, ensuring that spa guests receive the highest quality care.
Joanna holds several certifications in advanced skincare treatments and has completed master training in the following techniques:
Outside the spa, Joanna is an avid reader and enjoys sailing, horseback riding, traveling, and hiking.
*Joanna accepts new clients for laser hair removal and advanced skin treatments ONLY*.
